Ecem Gunekaban - TURKEY
Ecem is pictured here in the University Center of The New School, the university that Parsons School of Design is a part of.
Ecem took a leap of faith when she left her home in Istanbul to study Architecture at Parsons last year. Even though this isn't her first academic endeavor abroad (she attended a French high school), there’s something different about being a plane ride away from your loved ones. Gunekaban has always been a minimalist when it comes to her sense of style, but each of the pieces in her wardrobe are chosen with purpose. This particular sweater that she is sporting was a piece she purchased at the last minute before boarding the plane to leave for America. “It reminds me of home, and also spending time with my mother”, she notes. The results of retail therapy can do wonders when you're homesick, and even though she tries to FaceTime her family quite often, on the most chilling New York mornings, this sweater by Twist Clothing helps her feel like she has a bit of Istanbul with her.
